Tarot Reading for the Full Moon in Aries
Today's super full moon is guided by mercurial Aries. Move forward, but do so with caution to avoid disaster.
Full moons always make me feel . . . great, if I’m being honest. My cycle aligns with the white moon, so during the full moon I’m at peak Fal. From a superficial standpoint, I have energy, my skin looks and feels healthy, as does every other bodily organ, and I carry the optimism of a kid who hasn’t yet been jaded by life’s realities. I laugh more, play more, work more, and am generally more satisfied with life during the monthly full moon than at most any other time during a given month.
My experience, however, is atypical; I know this. For many, the full moon brings unease, a crackle of environmental tension. And this full moon is no different. Given the full moon intersects Libra, the sign of partnership, and Aries, the sign of the self, there is a very real struggle between the needs of an individual versus the needs of others within the individual’s community. And since this full moon is conjunct with Chiron, the astrological source of pain, the full moon in Aries is all about the ways in which we’ve been hurt.
And you will have a choice about whether and how to heal.
For this month’s super full moon, I’ve asked six questions of my tarot deck, the answers to which I’ve recorded here for you.
Take a few moments to consider the cards, their meanings, and how those meanings translate for you. I’ll share some of my personal insights, too.
1. How have I been hurt?
The Chariot
The Chariot suggests that you’ve been hurt by the sheer force of willpower, either yours or someone else’s, which affects your will to continue and may translate to a driving fear over which you want to triumph, even if you don’t know how.
For some, the driving force of fear shows itself as a lack of will to continue, a creeping passivity, and the desire to let things run their course. Retreat, spirituality, and inner growth all may stem from the chariot, but recognizing the need to retreat, and grow spiritually is a feat in itself.
For others, the driving force of fear appears in an almost frenetic desire to control competing forces, be they inner conflicts, people, or circumstances, standing in the way of goals. Rushing, change management, and self-mastery take precedence.
In both cases, The Chariot suggests that your hurt is emotional first, and you will need to locate the source of your emotional distress.
On a personal note: The Chariot is a punch to the chest. It’s possible I’ve hurt myself by believing I had control over my situation and have been, now, forced to recognize how little control I actually have. The more I can tune in to my inner guidance the more I will be able to outwardly exert
2. What pain do I still carry? Prince of Wands
The Prince of Wands
If you’re feeling a bit like the arts or other interests have recently lost a little of their former luster, you’re not alone.
The Prince of Wands suggests that the pain you still carry is the result of an inconsistency between what you love to do and what you may feel obligated or compelled to do instead. Generally, you love your life, the arts, games, and beauty. But your interests may be clouded by the emotional reality brought on by The Chariot.
The events of The Chariot have asked your inner Prince of Wands to sit down, to put away your interests and intrigues while battling the emotional upheaval you’re currently handling. The emotional upheaval has translated into a slowing of actions and has caused or will eventually cause artistic stagnation.
But since arts and creativty are important to you, an intrinsic part of who you are as a human being on this pale blue dot flinging madly through the cosmos . . .
On a personal note: Earlier this month, I told my partner that I was feeling creatively sapped due to life stressors. While I had a microfiction published in The MicroZine and published another microfic for myself, I didn’t have any new story ideas come to me. But I’m a storyteller, a writer, and a book developer, so ideas are my bread-and-butter. I need them, and I need them to work for me.
3. How can I turn my pain into power?
The Prince of Stones
How I love when two similar figures of different houses make their appearances as two sides of the same issue! Here we have, back to back, two princes. (Spin Doctors, anyone?)
While the Prince of Wands suggests your emotional pain has become artistic and creative stagnation, stanching your flow, you can turn your pain into personal power by tapping the Prince of Stones.
The Prince of Stones knows that planning and then taking carefully planned actions are the path to positive change, the path to seizing back your power. When planning your actions, though, it’s important not only to figure out what will work best for you tomorow but will will work for you best in the long term.
I know that, because of the lingering effects of The Chariot, you may be feeling bored, uninspired, or unequipped for what’s coming your way, but this view is out of touch with more practical matters.
Avoid sinking into and living in your despair. To despair for too long is a remarkably selfish thing to do. Instead, consider your person — who you are, what you want, what you can reasonably do to get what you want without greed or selfishness — and create for your person.
On a personal note: The Prince of Stones means that I’ve focused too much on me and my needs and haven’t put enough focus on the needs of those who depend on me, personally and professionally. A tough pill to swallow, perhaps, and introspection will be necessary as I examine my approach to my relationships.
4. What form will my healing power take?
The Universe
Fulfillment, achievement, balance, and wholeness — the four ingredients of this full moon’s healing power come to us from The Universe.
Ever uttered the phrase, If I put good vibes into the universe, the universe will provide? Well, buckle up because your time is coming. The universe provides, certainly, but like the fae, the outcome isn’t always as expected.
If you’re currently emotionally caught up by The Chariot and suppressing your creative power, know that everything — the whole universe! — is available to you. You, too, can have love, honor, happiness, and abundance, but finding these gifts may mean redefining what they look like, and getting them requires work.
Your healing power will come like a cosmic congratulations, an acknowledgement of your hard work. But once the congrats come your way, it’s time to put new new focus into the next bit of hard work and keep on the path toward the next goal. Look at both your spiritual and material goals, determine whether and how they align, and modify accordingly.
On a personal note: Honestly, I look forward to receiving gifts from the universe as a result of my hard work. While I don’t yet know what forms these gifts may take, I am currently working to realize those gifts by taking creative changes I’ve not been brave enough to take before. Carefully planned creative changes.
5. How can I avoid being led astray by impulse?
Aeon
Taking planned action toward achievement relies on change management in a big way. Change management is often something organizations are good at, but the average person — myself included, let’s be honest — isn’t always so great at managing change or their expectations for change.
Aeon asks you to proceed with balanced action, weighing the good and bad, the pros and cons, the haves and have-nots, the beautiful and the ugly. While this period of change is painful since it tests your beliefs and resilience, it is possible to make the wrong changes. Being self-aware, then, is critical to seeing the breadth and scope of options truly available to you so that you can make calculated moves in the right direction.
You’re going to see the world through new eyes, but avoid getting snared on shiny objects. Remember that The Universe provides, though its gifts may differ from what’s expected, and the Prince of Stones asks you to take a more wholistic, less ego-centered view of your situation.
When judging yourself, come clean. What has worked well? What hasn’t worked well? What clarity do you now have that you didn’t before? Have you gained maturity? If so, use it. Look at the present and the future when making choices, and when weighing your options and next steps, indecision will rear its ugly head and may attempt to lead you down the wrong path. So make choices, but make them in earnest after acknowledging all your bullshit.
On a personal note: I dislike being judged, though I judge. I suspect you’re likely the same, and if you’re not, I suspect you’re lying to yourself.
Judgement is a normal part of being human, and it’s something we each do every day. Aeon’s judgement, though, focuses on the actions taken, moreso than the intention behind those actions. During this time, I’m preparing to launch a new community for novelists, so weighing my options and determining the best way to move forward has been interesting. And I do get caught up in indecision, so I’m translating my indecision into research points instead, turning the passive into active work.
6. What will I need to remember if I find myself in conflict?
Five of Wands
When you find yourself in conflict, know this: Conflict is normal.
Strife and battle will come up along your achievement journey, and I know no creative people who have successfully avoided conflict. I mean, every author with whom I’ve ever worked knows how important conflict is for narrative tension in storytelling. But conflict without a corresponding goal is just a mean kid with a magnifying glass and far too much free time burning up ants in the sun.
In the pursuit of goals, your motivations are bested only by the conflicts that challenge them, hindering your progress along the way. Your pain comes from the emotional upheaval brought on by The Chariot, but getting out of your head and back into your body, moving from a person who Is to a person who Does, while challenging, is possible for you.
At times, bitterness may bubble up for you, especially bitterness toward others who already seem to have what you want. But avoid engaging with your bitterness monster; hatred need not be part of your personal quest. In fact, you will keep yourself happier and more evenly keeled by pushing away the negative thoughts that come with conflict and focusing the challenges and opportunities inherent therein.
On a personal note: Being told to check my rage isn’t exactly my favorite thing, but my cards never lie to me, so I hold their message in heart as truth. Conflict is normal. Human beings aren’t supposed to be full of sunshine and rainbows and hot air all the fucking time. We’re human. For every rainbow, there’s a hurricane. For every ray of sunshine, there’s snow. For every pocket of hot air, a frigid wind. Balance is the name of the human game. We are old and new, hot and cold, smart and stupid, ragey and blissful. We are walking contradictions, and it behooves us all to remember that.
I know that pain is normal during periods of growth. My daughter tells us that her elbows and knees get a little sore when she’s growing. And my partner and I see how the resiliency of her emotional state is tested with every developmental leap. In thinking about the writing community that is very much on my mind these days, I expect a learning curve for myself and a learning curve for the authors who join the group. I also expect some folks will leave because the group does not meet their expectations, and I am prepared, now, to avoid the bitterness of loss and, instead, reframe that loss as an opportunity to recruit an author better suited to the group’s layout, goals, and style.
Wrapping up . . .
If you’re carrying emotional baggage that is sapping your creativity, it’s time to look inward, figure out what you want and how your actions have been misaligned, recalibrate, and go out and get yours. And because you’re human being, shit is going to happen that makes you want to stop, bail on the goal, do something easier and more vapid instead. But that’s fear talking.
Lean into the discomfort of conflict and get brutally honest with yourself so that you can plan accordingly and be prepared to receive the universe’s gifts.
