Tarot Reading for the New Moon in Scorpio
Today's new moon in Scorpio is about looking within to discover inner truth while being ready to face what's below the surface.
The New Moon in Scorpio is another emotionally laden new moon influenced by water. And like the water, what’s on the surface is but a portion of the totality of being.
For Scorpio suns especially, but for all of us during this new moon, cycle, it’s time to explore the shadow self, the parts of us we may suppress, knowingly or unknowingly, as we navigate our everyday lives. Because it’s the shadow self that helps us understand our inner truths and be secure in our persons long term. But it’s the shadow self that also stands to hurt us the most if we neglect or abuse it.
NOTE: If you’re feeling a little blah or uninpired today, set out a few jars of water to charge under the new moon energy. I charge a gallon of water each new and full moon, which has not only resulted in positive effects related to my menstrual cycle but helps to level me out, period.
Anyhoo, on with the tarot reading.
What is my inner truth?
Nine of Swords
The Nine of Swords suggests that your inner truth thrives on conflict. You like having a problem to solve. Solving problems feels purposeful, useful, helpful even. But the unfortunate side effect of this truth is that you may sometimes be inclined to generate conflict so that you have something to solve. A sort of conflict-cake you desire to both eat and have, which never works out well.
You may feel like a victim, may be expecting or awaiting cruelty in your social spaces, though you don’t have to settle for being anyone’s punching bag (and you don’t have to use anyone as your personal punching bag).
If you’re feeling that high-combat energy, like there’s a fight just around the corner, pause. Are you confused by the actual options available to you? Are you being manipulalted by your own high emotional state to search for a fight? If so, breathe. Your fight is likely found within.
What awaits below my emotional surface?
Two of Wands
Feeling free and secure in your person, knowing you get to to decide what’s best for you and then do that thing, is what often keeps you moving and motivated. Sure, you like support and validation just like anyone else. We’re all basically just glorified houseplants needing water, food, and love to growth and thrive. But during this new moon in Scorpio, the desire to ‘do’ is trumping the desire to ‘be.’
Listen to this energy. Because the two of wants suggests your strong will, the power of your spiritual truth, may lead you on adventures you’d not previously dreamed of.
Now, seizing your dominion, your personal power, sounds great, but it has a dark side, too. That’s because radical individualism can become a narcissistic force real fast if you allow your emotions to spiral out of control. The world doesn’t need a repeat of Henry VIII. Just sayin.’
Book Plug: If you need help reigning in high emotions during this cycle, consider reading Ego Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday, a book that reminds us not to allow our heads to inflate such that the weight crushes our bodies. Ain’t none of us got time for that nonsense.
What fears do I carry about my shadow self?
Nine of Cups
Interestingly, your fears seem to stem from your ideas of fortune, prestige, breakthrough. These fears could be related to feelings of generosity — or feeling like the world has been less generous than it should have been or should be. These fears could be related to your personal wealth and comfort — especially the prospective loss of such wealth and comfort.
On the hierarchal fortune-achievement ladder, there’s always a reason to be scared if you allow yourself to be.
Before fortune, you fear going without, not having enough, being impoverished, materially or spiritually.
While achieving fortune, you fear loss of momentum, stagnation, of returning to a previous state.
After fortune, you fear loss of your gains, obsolecscence, and the depression in the post-goal environment.
Fearing fortune at any stage but especially before you even achieved it is a great way to gift yourself a soul-crushing case of anxiety, and nobody needs more anxiety.
How can I transform my fears into empowerment?
Ace of Cups
You are the master and commander of your emotional state; you get to decide how you feel, when you feel, and what you’re going to feel, and you don’t have to accept fear as the end result. Instead, during the new moon in Scorpio, you’re going to transform that fear into empowerment by leaning into optimism.
I know, I know, toxic positivity and whatnot. But this ain’t that, and we’re not spewing poison here. The Ace of Cups is about allowing love and happiness to flow freely between you and those in your space.
At times, you may have trouble communicating your fears, but when they do appear — and rest assured: they will — it’s important to reframe:
I’m not making enough money. → I get to learn new sales techniques to earn more.
Nobody understands my vision. → I get to talk about the potential I see for the future.
My partner never listens to me. → I get to forge and new and supportive bond with my signifant other.
Whatever your hang up, reframe with a positive spin. And if you’re having trouble reframing, tell me what’s bugging you in the comments, and I’ll reframe for you.
What emotional energy is strongest during this cycle?
Earlier I said that during this new moon in Scorpio, the desire to ‘do’ is trumping the desire to ‘be,” and that’s truth for the shadow self but also for this cycle energy at large.
There’s a crackle of energy under your surface that strives for perfection. You know you can just do the thing, have the thing, or achieve the thing if only you have the autonomy to take the right actions. Right?
Yes. But the right actions must be taken at the right time, or they are missed opportunities.
When you are in that moment of excitement, take the chance.
When intuition says, No, or, Not right now, listen to it.
Being impatient leads to errors leads to loss leads to frustration leads to the venom within the Scorpio’s stinger. Ultimately, lack of patience, lack of waiting for the right time, may set you back at cruelty. But if you operate as if the world is out to get you, you will create a hostile environment for yourself in which you’re a victim. In essence, you’ll thwart your own success.
Wrapping up . . .
As with all new moons, today presents a great chance to start something new, to generate ideas, to think of all the cool things yet to come in your future. But Scorpio can be a real jerk too, vacilating between charm and manipulation, honesty and abuse.
If at any point over this next month you find yourself devolving into a rage monster, step back and ask yourself what the opposite emotion is. Then, reframe that rage into something less hairy and scary. After that, it’s time to do the right work to get the right results.
Embrace your shadow self because it’s going to help you achieve, but that shadow self also has a penchant for arrogance, so watch that it’s head doesn’t get too big.
